october so far

this october in one word: RAIN.  omg so much rain.  it's been dark & dreary, rainy & stormy.  but we've had little breaks here & there & we've done with them what we can.  i traveled to utah for a family session, my mom came & visited for a week so she could watch the boys one night while sam & i acted like adults in seattle for a work party, & we did other obligatory october things.  pumpkin patch, trips to target for halloween decor (and random star wars swag) & playing in the leaves.  parker lost his third tooth, we added a neon tetra to our fish tank, & brooks & i spent many hours at dog parks.

we love october but this one has been wet.  here's to hoping november brings that crisp fall air!

the rest of september // in photos

september brought the end of summer, our last few sunny days (before the weeks of rain we've had in october), coughs, colds, strep throat (for me!) & pink eye (the boys!).  but it wasn't all bad.  sam & i got a weekend date with a fancy dinner & a kids free hike, i flew to utah for work & sam got to spend a few days in las vegas with some friends.  we got into the swing of things with school & brooks & i got in a few trail runs.

the older we get, the less & less excited we get about our birthdays, amiright?  i'm pretty much at that age where another year older isn't really something i'm super excited about.  i'm legit in my mid-thirties now which is pretty much where i think i'd stay forever if i could.  the thirties are great.  but since forty is the new thirty maybe there's nothing to fear about seeing another birthday come & go.  and like my mom always says, "aging is a privilege."  so one might as well do it gracefully, right?

it's our tradition on birthdays to just do fun family stuff of the birthday person's choice.  for me that was a morning hike with my favorite adventure squad, lunch at por que no, some shopping, a quick photo shoot with the boys (we've done this three of the last four years & it's become one of my favorite "birthday gifts" from them) & of course, cake & ice cream.  it was a great day.

here's to growing one year older & wiser, too.
