sometimes going to costco is the highlight of your day.

and sometimes, not even that is exciting enough for p-ray.

we are so over this rain.  and we both could benefit greatly from a little vitamin d.  but instead, we are bundling up & going to costco for some excitement in our day.  only, parker wasn't too excited.  can ya tell?

ok, so maybe he got a little excited at the end... but only because the sample lady said he was cute.  that gets him every time.

"get to know me monday." - w.5

so i have quite a few questions that were left unanswered from my "ask my anything" post way back before our hawaiian vacay.  i've been meaning to answer them because they were all really good ones, so i'm gonna pick a few & answer them each monday for the next few weeks.

melissa asked:

"what is your inspiration with your style?  what gets you motivated to get dressed up?  as a mom of a 13 month old, i definitely live in my sweatpants.  any advice for us mamas?"

alright, i'm gonna be real honest here.  most days i am hanging out in pj's or workout clothes a good portion of the day.  every now & then i'll get dressed up for a playdate, but usually the only time i get fully made up is for the occasional outing on the weekend & then always for church on sunday. this is a habit i'm trying to break too.  it's a work in progress.

but you know what has really inspired my style?  blogging.  in a couple ways. first, when i know that i am gonna put pictures up of myself in front of the interwebz, i try to look decent.  read:  no sweatpants {most the time}.  taking pictures of yourself & putting them somewhere where they are subject to comment can do a lot to motivate you to look your best.  a lot of the credit for this has been the "steppin' out saturday" posts, & i invite all of you to link up with mandy at harper's happenings & give it a try.  it really is fun to dress up a little more than usual & document the occasion.  so do it.

the other way blogging has influenced my style is by seeing what other "real" girls are wearing.  i have found so many bloggers out there who have an incredible sense of style & it makes me wanna copy be like them.  flipping through a magazine is one thing but finding a "real life" person who doesn't have a full line-up of makeup artists & stylists is inspiring to me.  so i get ideas from them.

some of my favorites bloggers for their style:  rockstar diaries, the daybook, rose ala mode, dear baby, & kendi everyday.  check 'em out.

and what are some things i've found work for me?  well, i honestly just find things i like, & then copy them. you will find that you are attracted to certain things & will find your sense of style developing.  keep an "inspiration" folder somewhere on your computer & save pictures of things you like in it.

also, some of the best advice i've ever read was from jessica, who said, "don't even own anything that you don't absolutely love!  if you only have pretty things in your closet, you have no choice but to wear a pretty outfit." {quote via}  i have thought of her advice so many times when i'm talking myself into buying something.  i just stand back, say, "wait, do i really really love this?"  if the answer is no, i move on.

the same goes for clothes you already own.  purge your closet of old drab things that are bringing your wardrobe down.  i just recently rid my closet of things i hadn't worn in the last year & it's so refreshing to walk in to my closet & only see things i would actually wear.  i can't stress this one enough.

and lastly, don't be afraid to try new things.  so what if you put on an outfit, leave the house, & then decide you hate it.  that has happened to me countless times.  just give yourself some points for trying something new.  and whatever you're wearing, wear it with confidence & a smile.  seriously, if you look like you feel good in your skin, you'll look good in your clothes.  i promise.

so there you have it.  my take on style.  i don't claim to be any kind of expert... i'm just a wannabe.  and so can you.

ok, that was a long one so i'm leaving it at that.  you guys.  i need more questions!  ask away in the comments, tweet me, facebook me, or shoot me an email, mmmmk?

rainy day spring cleaning & red light photoshoots.

saturday was one of those days where you look at the clock, realize it's 2 pm, look in the mirror, notice you don't have makeup on, see that you're still in your sweats, say "meh," then go about your business.  because that's what saturday was all about.  business.  and by business i mean pulling old boxes out of closets, throwing stuff away, making piles of stuff to donate, & listing things for sale on ebay.  and that was our saturday.  it may not look like spring here in seattle, but we're spring cleaning around these parts fo sho.

it was a productive day.  and it ended with me running errands, alone.  cue:  loud music & red light self-portrait photoshoot.

because it was a t-shirt & hat kind of day.  ya gotta have those once in a while, right?  totes.

weekday recap - {in iPhone pics} w.20

remember last week's post where we left the house a total of two times?  we did much better this week.  so much better that my laundry & dishes are suffering.  but it was all worth it.

we started our week off right with a trip to target.  trust me, after being house-bound all of last week, i was going through target withdrawals.

after target we had a night of cake, ice cream, & games to celebrate heather's birthday.  sidenote: i'm always up for celebrating someone's birthday when it involves them making me amazing pulled pork bbq sandwiches.  you need to have birthdays more often, heather.

parker entertains himself while i get ready in the mornings by pulling out everything underneath my bathroom sink.  i would probably make him stop if he didn't look so cute while doing it.

mandy & bennett came down on tuesday to hang out & despite the rain we bundled the babies up & went for a walk.  parker didn't seem to mind since he was zipped up in a bubble.  and bonus!  he even napped.

parker took his toy-playing very serious on wednesday.  too serious to smile for the camera, apparently.

thursday is my marathon day.  by the time i was home for the evening, sam already had parker in bed.  so this is pretty much what i got to see of him.  first matter of business upon getting home?  changing from work clothes to play clothes.  aka: pajamas.  done & done.

we were very ready for friday this week.  we started it off right with an amazing workout at stroller strides, followed that up with a playdate consisting of parker & three girls {he didn't mind the ratio}, & then finished the day off with dinner out on the town as a family.

and that's how you start off the freakin' weekend.  have a good one everybody!

did you take your "week in camera phone" pictures?  link up!

there's only one rule to linking up:
1.  your pictures have to be taken by your camera phone. that's it!  you don't even have to have a picture for every day.  got one camera phone pic of something fun from this week?  link up!

optional:
grab the code below & put it in your post to have the linky with all the thumbnails show up on your blog .  if you wanna be really cool, post a link to my blog so others can come here to grab the code, too.  the more kids who come out to play, the more fun it will be, right?

flashback friday: april 1, 2010.

one year ago today i was thirty-six weeks pregnant.

yup.

it's april, & that means it's officially time to count-down to p-ray's b-day.  this is me exactly one year ago today.  i don't even know that girl & that girl wouldn't even recognize me.  one year changes a lot.  not only does it change your hair & the way your favorite rolling stones t-shirt fits you {yup, same shirt in both pictures}, it has completely changed who i am.

i no longer lie awake at night wondering what my baby's face will look like.  now i lie awake at night laughing to myself about all the silly looks my baby's face made that day.

i can no longer say i've never changed a diaper.  i can now say i've changed a diaper on airplanes, in the backseat of a car, on my lap, in restrooms, on benches, & countless other places.

i no longer spend an hour & a half getting ready for the day.  i've stopped blowdrying & straightening my hair & have rolled with my natural air-dried curls.  i've learned to be efficient.

i'm no longer the messiest person in my house.  i now spend a good portion of my time cleaning up the mess of toys that are left in the wake of p-ray's path.

i no longer worry about how i will find time to do the things i want to do.  i now worry about filling up my baby's free time with worthwhile activities, play dates, & things that will help him grow & develop.

i no longer worry about how a baby will change the dynamic of my marriage.  i have now fallen in love with sam on a completely different & deeper level.

i no longer wonder why moms complain so much & yet still have kids.  i now understand that sometimes you just gotta vent, but you would never change a minute of any of it for the world.

i no longer go straight from the office to my bedroom at night when going to bed.  ever.  i always stop by parker's room & watch him sleep for a minute.  every.  single.  time.

i no longer think i'll be the mom who can still "do everything" & that having a kid won't change my lifestyle.  i now know what it's like to put someone else's best interests first & change my plans to accommodate a nap.

i no longer wonder if i'll know what to do when my baby cries.  i can now comfort & soothe a crying baby with the sound of my voice but still fear the day that isn't enough.

i no longer worry about how i will be able to love a little person i don't even know.  i now know what it feels like to love someone with every single part of my being.  and then some.

i'm no longer just amy, wife to sam.  i am now amy, wife to sam & mom to parker.  i'm a mom.
