hawaii. worth giving up cookies for?

***my face is superimposed via photoshop.  if you couldn't tell, i laugh at you. and i think we should be best friends.***

i am officially counting down to our maui trip in t minus two & a half months, & part of this countdown includes thinking about how i should be watching what i eat a bit more.  a swimsuit in january doesn't bode well with my usual holiday gluttony.

these thoughts include stuff like, "ya know, maybe i shouldn't make four-dozen cookies for the third time in two weeks"  or, "late night DQ blizzard run?  we should probably go on a late night fruit-stand run instead."  i think about it, & then i laugh at how ridiculous i sound.  because who wants fruit when you can have an oreo cookie jar blizzard?  and who wants to eat healthy around the holidays?

i have been doing pretty good with the work outs.  stroller strides is getting me out of the house & making me sweat three times a week, & i'm liking it.  but when i come home & throw down a couple chocolate-chip pumpkin cookies, i may as well of been sitting on the couch eating bon-bons the whole time.

and when i say a couple, i mean, a-couple-every-time-i-walk-into-the-kitchen.

now here's my problem.  i don't want to stop eating this crap.  i like eating junk.  i love baking seasonal goodies, & i love going to get ice cream with my family.  it's fun.  i know that my work outs cancel out some of it, but seriously?  i don't want to put sam & myself on the fast track to diabetes.  i need to be healthier.  i need to set a precedence that will not lead parker into a life of childhood obesity.

so.  i'm a gonna be better.  i have got to break this sugar addiction, & i've got to do it for the right reasons.  my motto in life has always been, "everything in moderation.  including moderation."  i've gotta return to this.  sure, ice cream on the weekend should be fine.  because? a lifetime without ice cream isn't a life i want to live.  but ice cream on friday, ice cream & birthday cake saturday afternoon, a batch of cookies saturday night, repeat on sunday... isn't good.

i resolve to limit myself to one cookie after a meal, & indulge in a real dessert one day on the weekend.  starting.  right.  now.

and bonus?  maybe i'll look alright in a swimsuit come january.  and maybe i won't have to superimpose my head onto girls with better bodies than me.  maybe.

  1. I truly thought that was a picture of you when you guys went to Australia so it's not too far-fetched! I'm with you on the sugar addict thing. I love my little something after dinner and my a lot of somethings on the weekend!

  2. I need to cut back on the sugar too. I was really good until the wedding, now I've been on a 5 month binge of eating whatever I want. Which has been nice, but I can tell I've been eating too much. I shall join you in this quest for hot bod-ness!

  3. the answer is... not worth giving up cookies for ;)

Just kidding, but seriously it's just impossible to be healthy over the holidays. Too much good food!

Maybe you could be super healthy during the week and let yourself splurge a little on the weekends?

  4. that sounds like it'll really work for you. besides, you look to me to be pretty in shape, so i'm sure you're not tooooooo worried about it. you're doing things in moderation and that's probably the best thing.

i on the other hand, am i psycho and have cut literally all sugar from my life and have been miserable ever since. although, i have dropped 16lbs recently from it. just a thought... maybe you could just do it temporary?

  5. You're eating healthier... and I went out and bought the ingredients for the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies today! Oh man. I keep telling myself that I'll watch what I eat more AFTER this pregnancy... when really, this pregnancy alone should be enough to motivate me. That and all the weight I've been gaining lately. Meh.
Good luck! :) I hope you have better will power than I've had lately, that's for sure!

  7. Woohoo I'm from Hawaii. Not Maui, but oh well, same difference. Definitely not worth giving up cookies for-- just eat the cookies and rock the bikini anyway! :)

  8. Yeah... giving up the cookies would suck. I don't know how Jess is doing it! My sweet tooth is CRAZY since the babe.

  9. First of all - you always look amazing in your photo's, so I think you should eat as many cookies as you like. Plus, you're on the breastfeeding diet, right? Parker is burning the calories for you!

  13. Oh wow... I so feel with you. I just got back from a cruise with my hubby and I did a 2 month pre-trip diet. Totally no desert whatsoever and I did lose 20 lbs. But now that I'm back and the holidays are here there has been not one day that I've gone without some type of desert. I wish you all the best on your endeavor. I know how hard it is. But you can do it. By the way until I read your caption I did not notice that your head was superimposed on that photo... hehe

  14. Amy, your like the 3rd person who I've heard is going to Hawaii in the next few months...was there a deal going on that I didn't get the memo on?? I need a vacation BAD and really want to go to Hawaii in the Spring. Where are you staying and did you find a good deal?

  15. Go get em! I say eat your holiday sweets in moderation and then just up the workout time when you can...that's usually my holiday attack plan. :) BTW, I am so jealous you are going to Hawaii in January...what a perfect time to go!

  16. Oh goodness, I've got the same problem when it comes to sweets and junk food. I just make sure I don't eat too much and work out a reasonable amount during the week so I don't feel bad about digging into my killer cravings.

  17. Stopping by from One Little Mister blog...A trip to Hawaii sounds exciting! If I weren't too much of a chicken and the vacation such an enormous expense factor then I'd love to. Good luck to you as you slim down for swimsuit wear in January!

  18. Hawaii will be so awesome! Totally worth it to cut down on cookies for now. But ice cream is good for you! It's just milk anyway ;)
